Module 8 Summary
Module 8 equips faculty with a comprehensive, ready‑to‑use set of resources designed to make the integration of immigration court‑watching into courses pedagogically effective, ethically grounded, and logistically manageable. The module acknowledges the labor involved in community‑engaged and project‑based learning and centers instructor support as essential to successful implementation.
At the core of the module is a robust Instructor Toolkit, which includes a detailed Instructor Guide with course integration strategies, a structured survey instrument, guidance on identifying and contacting immigration courts, FAQs, a glossary of terms, student agreements, and a sample letter for students to carry during court observations. The toolkit also provides a sample syllabus, curated readings and media, along with reflection and assignment prompts to support purposeful integration of court‑watching experiences.
Should you have any questions or wish to discuss integration into your course or research lab, please contact us Dr. Lauren Heidbrink at lauren.heidbrink@csulb.edu and Dr. Amelia Frank-Vitale at afv@princeton.edu.
